Overview
Cardinia Life is the premier health and recreational facility in the Cardinia district of Victoria, offering pools, fitness and leisure amenities to the local community. Aquatic centres are among the most energy-hungry buildings a council can operate, with pools requiring constant heating year round, and in 2017 the facility accounted for 24% of the Council's operational carbon emissions, some 1,684 tonnes of CO₂. To reduce this footprint and cut running costs, Cardinia Shire Council engaged Evo Energy Technologies to replace the centre's ageing plant with a cogeneration solution built for maximum energy efficiency.
The system delivers
Evo Energy Technologies supplied and installed a 2G Patruus 140kW natural gas cogeneration unit, replacing the centre's older, less efficient system. The unit generates electricity on site while its recovered heat keeps the pools at a comfortable temperature with maximum efficiency, drawing far more value from every unit of gas than the previous equipment.
The outcome
The upgrade has delivered significant yearly energy cost savings for the Council, with lower operational costs flowing through to ratepayers. It has also substantially reduced the facility's carbon emissions, addressing one of the largest single sources in the Council's operations.
