Overview
South East Water operates the Boneo Water Recycling Plant in Boneo, Victoria, part of a network already committed to a 45 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2025 and net zero emissions by 2030 under its Emissions Reduction Pledge. Water recycling is an energy-intensive process, and biogas produced on site offers a way to generate power locally rather than drawing solely from the grid, supporting that emissions target. Boneo is the second site in the South East Water network to implement 2G cogeneration, with EvoET engaged to supply and install the equipment.
Energy Generation
The installation comprises a 2G Avus500plus CHP unit with a biogas and natural gas blending system, a 2G Avus500plus Gas to Power unit running on natural gas only, two H2S activated carbon filters, one siloxane activated carbon filter, a high temperature C-Nox biogas flare, and four Meidinger biogas blowers. Together, the two Avus500plus engines generate low carbon electricity for the plant, with the carbon filtration and flare equipment conditioning the biogas supply and managing excess gas.
