The treatment plant that pays its own power bill
Wastewater treatment is one of the most energy-intensive services a utility runs. Aeration, pumping and processing draw power around the clock, and the bill lands on top of strict environmental obligations. But the same plant already produces the answer: sludge digesters generate biogas every day, and at many sites that gas is simply flared.
A biogas engine turns it into electricity and heat instead. The power offsets the plant's constant electrical load, and the recovered heat keeps the digesters at their working temperature without a separate boiler. Fuel the plant produces anyway ends up running the plant.
The result is lower operating costs, lower emissions and a treatment facility that moves from energy consumer towards energy self-sufficiency.

- Plant power: biogas becomes electricity that offsets the constant load of aeration and pumping.
- Digester heating: recovered engine heat keeps digesters at temperature, so gas production stays steady year-round.
- From flare to value: gas the site currently burns off becomes energy the site would otherwise buy.
- Surplus export: where gas production outpaces site demand, power can be exported to the grid.
- Biomethane path: the same gas can be upgraded to grid-quality biomethane as volumes grow.
